What Are Hydrogels?

Dressings not only act as a protective barrier, but also facilitate an excellent environment for wound healing. Hydrogels are recommended for wounds that range from dry to mildly exuding. A hydrogel dressing is made from 90% water in a gel base that regulates fluid exchange from a wound surface. While absorbing small amounts of fluid, it also donates moisture to a wound bed to provide for a moist wound healing environment. Because of its high moisture content, it is ideal for assisting with pain relief as well and can be used for different types of wounds – from ones that are dry or slightly moist wounds to radiation skin damage.
